"From a socialist perspective, war is best understood as the extraction of value from another people by military force. Marx' theory of war sets basic conflicts over the means of production as center-point. There are different conflicts between differing groups in different political economies: in primitive economies, one tribe wars with another over land, water and herds. In slavery, armed groups from one country enslave captives; in Feudalism, one Prince will try to conquer another prince and expand both land and subjects from which tribute/taxes can be extracted. In capitalist societies, the basic conflict between nations is over markets, raw materials and access to cheap labor. Socialist distinguish between unjust wars, above, and just wars. Generally any war to liberate people or nations from domination is just. See Passive Resistance."
